The foundation is legal and gained ANBI status

The last update from The Potato Foundation was in November 2023, it is now time to share some more great news with you all.

In this communication we will update you on the current progress made in the construction of this charitable public benefit foundation.

For those who have joined LambWeston more recently and as a refresher for the whole team, The Potato Foundation is a separate entity to Lambweston and is dedicated to support the local communities of the employees (and former employees) of the former Lamb Weston/Meijer plants and offices.

Below are the basic principles and individuals who should benefit by this generous initiative of the Meijer family.

Themes

  • Education and Development
  • Sport and Culture
  • Health and Well-being

The family feels strongly that all-in society should have access to opportunities to develop themselves in any of these categories. Equal Access for All.

Targetgroup

  • Childeren
  • Youth
  • Adults
  • Elderly

The current Board of Directors consists of both former and current employees of Lambweston/Meijer:

  • Chair: Niels Meijer*/Ceren Orhan
  • Treasurer: Ad Huissen
  • Secretary: Esther van der Weele
  • Board members: Daniela Bock, Bill Garner

(*Niels Meijer will step down once the foundation is fully operational)

Since November 2023, the newly formed board of directors has been meeting regularly to bring The Potato Foundation to life. The board has been working closely with the Meijer family and are being supported by ABN AMRO Bank in The Netherlands (Philanthropy Department), who have supplied a great deal of valuable advice already.

In this period the focus has been on ensuring The Potato Foundation meets the necessary legal requirements to operate.

Critical to this was gaining the formal ANBI status (ANBI is a condition set by the Dutch Tax and Customs Administration for charitable giving). And we’re happy to share that it’s approved on April 3rd

Guidelines

  • Applications can only be made by a current or *former employees (*during the time of the Lambweston/Meijer Partnership).
  • The beneficiary must be a Public Benefit Organisation NL (PBO), Registered Charity (UK), Tax-privileged organisations – Austria (TPO) and/or a relevant regulatory body operating in that country.
  • The beneficiary must meet the requirements of the Themes and Target Groups described above.
  • Please direct any questions you might have at this initial stage by email to: ThePotatoFoundation@lambweston.eu
