The Potato Foundation’s donation to De Zonnebloem made many people happy.

A musical and a boat trip provided 250 unforgettable shared Zonnebloem moments.

The guests of Zonnebloem (people with physical disabilities and/or who are lonely) are unable or less able to actively participate in society. By visiting them regularly and organising activities, the National Zonnebloem organisation, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2024, keeps in touch with people. And the best thing is when they are activated and invited to a fun event. This brings them into contact with other guests, encourages them to talk to each other, helps them find friendships and combats loneliness.

Not many guests have the opportunity or the financial means to visit the theatre or go on a boat trip. Thanks to the donation, we were able to welcome 250 guests to two of these events. It was another resounding success, thanks to the donation from The Potato Foundation, but of course also thanks to the volunteers who worked hard at the six Zonnebloem branches in the municipality of Bergen op Zoom.

These were the events in spring 2025:

  • Musical Pippin at the Maagd theatre in Bergen op Zoom
  • Boat trip on the Haringvliet from Bergen op Zoom
Two more activities are planned for 2025, made possible in part by the donation:
  • Film afternoon ‘Gold and Silver’ by Andre Rieu
  • Contribution to the annual Christmas dinner

The warm heart of Zonnebloem

National association De Zonnebloem is an organisation that makes a difference in society by supporting all people with physical disabilities, especially those at risk of social isolation. A disability can limit your freedom of movement. When you become more dependent on others, your world often becomes smaller and you feel lonely more often.

On behalf of De Zonnebloem, thousands of volunteers are active every day, organising and supervising social and recreational activities. They also work to improve accessibility and mobility. In this way, they enrich the lives of many people with physical disabilities. There is so much more possible than you think.
