Renovation Cruyff Court Ryan Gravenberch, Liverpool, UK
On the 3rd of December 2015, we opened the Cruyff Court Anfield together with The Liverpool Foundation. This Cruyff Court had been used by 1000s of people since opening nearly 10years ago.
The project to resurface the Cruyff Court at the Anfield Sports and Community Centre (ASCC) was much needed. Thanks to The Potato Foundation, we were able to renovate the Cruyff Court and rename it after our proud ambassador and Liverpool player Ryan Gravenberch. The renovation and opening the Court as the Cruyff Court Ryan Gravenberch means local children and young people will continue to have a safe space to play. The Cruyff Court has enabled children and young people to make friends, practice their skills and improve physical health.
To support the activity on the Cruyff Court 14 coaches have been trained as Cruyff Coaches since 2015. The Coach Course equips coaches to understand how to use the 14 rules and 7 values of the Cruyff Foundation to help children and young people have fun, learn and develop new skills. It also enables the Coaches to work with groups of young leaders to deliver Heroes projects.
The goal of Heroes of the Cruyff Courts is to turn young people into role models for their neighbourhood and get them involved with the community and the Cruyff Court in the long term. The project trains Cruyff Foundation Coaches, who then coach young peopleto organise a sports event for children in the community. By organising events, the young people are given an opportunity to discover and develop their talents while also being challenged to try something new.
